J’s Bee - Blind In The Rye [Far Out]
Pressure building jazz composition that demands strict attention. Whoever played drums on this is my new hero/heroine.
Tune’s on soundcloud. Album: Isotope already out.
Go. Get. Now.
Benjamin Brunn - The Way She Giggled [Third Ear] *Electronica, Brain food.
A spritely little number, more or less dance floor friendly, too. Me likey.
On A Sun Life LP, which also features U Teach Us. Go. Get. Now.
Micro Album - Cid Rim [Lucky me] *Electronica, Nu Jazz. From what I’ve heard so far, this is going to be a candidate for album of the year.
Go. Get. Now.
And, whilst you’re at it, get this too (collab between Cid Rim and The Clonius).
Zed Bias pres. Yannah Valdevit - Gotta Keep Me Goin’ [Tru Thoughts] * Electronica, Nu Jazz. No room for doubts: this is the good stuff (and that comes as no surprise if you’re familiar with the respective back catalogues). EP out already, but can’t seem to find it in any of the usual places (?) Album “Equilibrium” on the way…

Time difference ft J-Live (Marc mac remix) - Homecut [First word]*Hip-hop, lo-fi.
The inimitable Marc Mac provides backdrop to proper emcee-ing from the criminally undervalued J-Live and Homecut (who also deserves more plaudits than he gets). The good stuff, Go. Get. Now.
… and whilst I’m in a hip-hop state of mind…
Eric Lau feat. Oddisee - No Regrets [Kilawatt Music] *hip-hop. J-live-ish, got skills tho, download at blog??, really should check this out!!
Oddisee - Don’t Sleep (Remix) [Mello Music] *hip-hop, true school. Up front, features invincible.
Jay Electronica - Exhibit C [Decon] *true school hip-hop. Sounds good (even after 3 listens). Note to myself: how have I managed to *not* buy any of his music yet??
Warrior – Declaime – FONK – SomeOthaShip Connect *hip-hop. He got skillz, check a few more tunes before buying
Foniks (Neckbreakers crew) – Unreleased (Featuring Jon?Doe) – Foniks *hip-hop. Latin america, got skills, good flo.
Cold Hearted (ft. Miguel Jontel) Blu & Exile*tru school hip-hop, 2007. Note to myself: *2007* and I still haven’t tracked this one down. Embarrassing.
yU - Native [Mello Music] *hip-hop. Reasonable skills, interesting subject matter.

Azanyah - I Will Surely Come Again [Jazzman]*Jazz. Saxophone and piano soloist, drummer also features heavily (percussionist and vocalist deserve a mention also).
The most uncompromising and no-nonsense jazz composition I’ve heard in many years. Not for the faint hearted (or for those with short attention spans).
Album: The one, appears to be vinyl/CD only :-(.

Features “Nights” (Billy Ocean cover) and “Teena” (Teena Maria cover). Dance floor friendly Soul/Nu Jazz/Electronica, apparantley her fourth studio release.
Note to myself: Why haven’t I got the other three??

Jerker Kluge’s Deep Jazz - Little Sunflower [Perfect Toy] *Jazz. Silky vocal arrangement, dreamy clarinet solo, and plenty of other interesting things going in the background too (especially in the last few seconds when the drummer starts talking). May well be the best take on Little Sunflower that I’ve ever heard.
Go. Get. Now.
Free download (in exchange for an email address).
Album: The meeting, not out yet. First album: Heaven & Earth available here
Roy Ayers - Mystic Voyage (Version) [BBE] *yeah like I need to describe this one (although it is worth mentioning that this is a vocal version, not sure who’s behind the mic, but she’s damn good). Pick inspired by this weeks basic soul. 15 years of BBE available here.
… a few more BBE tunes from the backlog
Slakah The Beatchild – Down – [BBE] *soul, broken beat, ok vocals, got a certain freshness about it, album something forever on junodownload
Eric Tagg - Living Off The Love [BBE] *soul, very catchy chorus, sounds 80ish, album Americana rock your soul … on junodownload
Mike Lundy - Love One Another [BBE] *soul, guitar’s a plenty, light strings, 80’s feel to it, unashamedly optimisitc, cheered me up anyway. _ Update: appears that this is also on “Americana rock your soul …”, officially making it a go get now! release _
Robert Strauss feat. Ayah - Odyssey Man [BBE] *soul, nu jazz, not a ground-breaker but still good enough ep on junodownload
Al Kent - Reverb Is Your Friend [BBE] *fusion, jazz, mid tempo, suitably laid back, electric piano solo, compares well with the sound on Ramsey Lewis’ Sun Goddess album, and also surely served as a base for that cro-magnon tune. Album “secret sounds” available on junodownload.
