D Numbers - New-Age Wondertwinism [Mesa]
Subtle, yet striking piece of brain food. I’m up to three listens so far and each time I’ve noticed a little detail that wasn’t there the first time.

Eric Lau feat. Rahel - Everytime [Kilawatt Music] Not exactly a ground-breaker, but it works on me as it’s perfect for “getting your spring on”. Plus, I’ve had a soft spot for Rahel ever since I heard this.
Album, One of Many, should have been out last month, but I can’t seem to find it in any of the usual places(?)

Crimea X - Dream Is Gone [Hell Yeah] Winner of today’s “I can’t get this tune out of my head” award. I know next to nothing about these guys, this looks like a good place to start righting that particular wrong.

Colman Brothers - She Who Dares (Scrimshire Remix) [Wah Wah 45s] *Nu jazz, fusion, mid-tempo. Another stand out colman brothers remix (to accompany this one by Tall Black Guy). Both are available on Colman Brothers remixed LP. If I haven’t bought this by the end on the month then I might as well just give up on myself.

Charlie Parker - Repetition (Mark de Clive-Lowe Remix) *Nu jazz, electronica. MdCL maintains form. Love the last 90 seconds of this, wonder what Bird would make of it. Not sure if it’ll get an official release … however, *this* has been out for ages and I still haven’t picked it up. Note to myself: What is your problem?

Beyond the days (ft Heidi Vogel) - Gaetano Partipilo [schema] *Jazz.
Light-hearted and elegant composition from Gaetano. Aerial silks behind the mic from Heidi. Clean, fresh air for a stuffy office-bound morning. Available on Besides (allegedly released on Feb 19th, but I can’t seem to find a copy of it anywhere.)

Time difference ft J-Live (Marc mac remix) - Homecut [First word]*Hip-hop, lo-fi. The inimitable Marc Mac provides backdrop to proper emcee-ing from the criminally undervalued J-Live and Homecut (who also deserves more plaudits than he gets). The good stuff, Go. Get. Now.
… and whilst I’m in a hip-hop state of mind…

Azanyah - I Will Surely Come Again [Jazzman]*Jazz. Saxophone and piano soloist, drummer also features heavily (percussionist and vocalist deserve a mention also).
The most uncompromising and no-nonsense jazz composition I’ve heard in many years. Not for the faint hearted (or for those with short attention spans). Album: The one, appears to be vinyl/CD only :-(.

Twin Cities feat. Kia Bennett - Falling [Constellation Avenue] *Nu jazz, soul. The synth’s on this just should not work (way, way over the top), but somehow they do… and then the whole thing is elevated to a higher place by an attention demanding vocal performance from Kia Bennet. Single on soundcloud.
